I haphazardly read a couple of Louise Penny "Three Pines" mysteries (A Trick of the Light and Glass Houses, the seventh and thirteenth books in the series, respectively) and though the pacing is a little slow, I enjoyed the French Canadian setting and characters—Chief Inspector Armand Gamache often travels from police headquarters in cosmopolitan Montreal to the rural hamlet of Three Pines, which is full of wacky denizens . . . anyway, I am now reading Still Life, the first novel in the series—and I'm realizing I probably should have started there in the first place; I would have avoided a lot of confusion and conjecture.
