Thar She Blows

Unlike last summer's epic fail, we had some success on today's whale-watching excursion—the Miss Belmar took us a long way from her home waters, nearly all the way to Sandy Hook, to see a juvenile humpback whale that our onboard cetologist called "Fishmer"—because the whale has a marking on its tail that either looks like a fisherman on a dock or a mermaid in the ocean (or perhaps it looks like a white blob on a giant sea mammal's tail) but it was well worth the long voyage because Fishmer spouted and splashed and even breached once—very exciting—and then, once we got back on land, my wife and I biked to Talula's and enjoyed some local beers and sourdough crust pizza . . . an excellent end to an excellent vacation—back to the subtropical jungle of Central Jersey tomorrow morning.
