Tough Triples
I always thought sorting out sanguine, consanguine, and sanguinary was the toughest task in the English language, but it might be equally difficult to distinguish between baccala, baklava, and balaclava . . . how many can you properly define?
Baccala is salt cod or Tony Soprano's brother-in-law. Baklava is a Mediterranean dessert involving filo dough, honey, and paste made out of nuts. Balaclava is a winter facemask.
I have no idea what sanguine, consanguine, and sanguinary mean, but I think they involve blood.

very nice! perfect on the 'b" words. sanguine is cheerful (bloody cheeks) consanguine is related by blood and sanguinary is murderous (bloodthirsty).
zman is a notorious googler. and i only knew two of them.
i got mixed up with baccala and baklava and cat nailed me. she gloated.
I know my foods. I bought a balaclava at REI so I know what those are too.
