A Political Thought Experiment
If we could divide our nation into two, and all the Red State Conservatives lived on one side and the Blue State Liberals lived on the other, and you had to choose where you were going to live and you couldn't switch . . . would you live on the unregulated, low taxation, abortion is illegal, few social services, health care for those with jobs, non-unionized, lobbyist empowered, large gap between rich and poor, underfunded public education Red side or the high taxation, plenty of social services, abortion is legal, marijuana is legal, universal health care, unionized, regulated markets and financial institutions, pro-public education Blue side?
I live in a blue state already and have no plans on moving.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find interesting is your map shows that Alberta is the only "red" province. Really? Those dudes in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan are big liberals? The political discourse in downtown Yellowknife must be a veritable Algonquin Round Table.
The red states have better fishing trips (NC), gambling (NV), and oil sources (AK, TX). But the blue states have better food (NY), weather (CA, HI), and guidos (NJ) so I'm staying put.
ReplyDeleteAll the captains of industry would move to the red states (lower taxes) but all of the workers would live in the blue states (stronger unions). So nothing would get done. But don't take my word for it. Here is an in-depth, insightful Youtube that can enrich your knowledge of labor politics, economics, free-markets and statism/socialism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyxYdj9dGcI
ReplyDeleteAs you can see from the insightful (and germane) Youtube, there are no absolutes in a man-made reality and this type of thought exercise is little better than mental masturbation. "The problem with capitalism is capitalists. The problem with socialism is socialism".
ReplyDeleteKinda like choosing which part of the Titanic you would rather reside on, the upper deck with the elitists and plastic exterior, or the lower deck with more grit and honesty. No matter where you go, the outcome seems inevitable.
