Everybody Likes a Compliment (especially Dave)

As is our usual habit, my wife and I were doing the NYT puzzle Connections yestermorning, and I whizzed right through without making an error, so I celebrated my intellectual magnificence, 

and my wife said to me, "You don't need to brag," 

so I said to her, "I always compliment you when you finish quickly," 

and she said, "That's different," 

so I said, "No, it's not—bragging is just complimenting yourself."
