Self-aware Dave Distracts Annoying Dave

I'm writing this sentence so I don't stress my wife out while she's packing for our trip to the Catskills . . . I tend to pack fast and loose and finish well before her and then I want to get in the car and get going! traffic is building up! I don't want to eat lunch at 2 PM! I want to go on a hike! it gets dark early now!-- but she's a bit more methodical than me (which is why we make a great team).

  1. zwoman packs slowly and heavily too. She always brings way more stuff than we need.
Maybe it's a Catherine/Kathryn thing? The first time we traveled with a baby she packed a suitcase full of diapers and I said "This is insane, we're paying to check a bag of diapers? We aren't going to Afghanistan, we can buy diapers in Florida." That was not the correct observation. I made another incorrect observation this year when she packed multiple hoodies and fleeces for herself and zkids and I said "We're going to the Jersey shore in August not Maine in December. Why do you need so many sweaters?"

  4. Hmm, I wonder what other commonality we could find to explain these shared behaviors?

  5. I was going to say “lust for zman” but your idea might be more on point.

  7. A comment about changing a diaper is much better with the word zkids in it

  8. i too have said the "we're not going to ___________"-- and inserted a developing, possibly war-torn nation in the blank and then said we can buy whatever we need wherever we were going. but now I've learned to just carry whatever heavy bag my wife packs to the car and not say a word because-- what does it matter? also, i should have packed more underwear.
