Carrie Brownstein-- of the sketch comedy show
Portlandia-- was being
interviewed on "Fresh Air" a few weeks ago, and when Terry Gross asked her to describe her tattoos, Brownstein said something that I agree with wholeheartedly . . . as I possess some really stupid tattoos that I do not wish to talk about (why couldn't I have gotten
a cool science tattoo, like these people?) and not only do I completely and unequivocally agree with what she said about tattoos, but I also think she used the perfect analogy to develop her opinion . . . she said: "Telling people about your tattoos is worse than
telling people about your dreams."
Some of her tattoos must be from drunken drugged out touring days with Sleater-Kinney.
ReplyDeleteHer new band, Wild Flag, is really good.
i've been meaning to listen to her stuff. i will try to remember this afternoon and see if you are correct in your assessment.
ReplyDeleteSqueatky and I were at a beerfest one time and we saw a woman with a long calculus equation tattooed in a spiral around her arm, and at Squeaky's insistence I went up to her and said "I was told there would be no math" but she didn't realize I was supposed to be a jerk and instead started throwing back midrange and she tried to hang out with us after the beerfest but we fled to a bar when she turned her back for a second.
ReplyDeletei vaguely remember that movie line . . .
ReplyDeletethrowing back midrange?
Cmon man, it's the Biz! I started throwing bass, she started throwing back midrange.
ReplyDeleteWhile sharing with Madeline this post she went from 1. Please don't let me get a tattoo 2. Wow those science tattoos are cool 3. If I get one, I'll make sure it's really small. See how quickly she'll be at the tattoo parlor getting the Punette Square when she turns 18. And how am I suppose to stop her (see #1). Could our Mom have stopped us? When asked about my tattoo I bore the questioner with what a mistake I made by getting it because this is easier to talk about than why I really got it.
ReplyDeleteian takes art in south river and i walked past big brad's tattoo parlor last week! still there, creating stupid stories . . .
ReplyDeletebut if i could do it again i'd get a darwin tree of life on my back. dammit.
what's stopping you?
ReplyDeleteyou'll have to wait until friday to find out why . . .
ReplyDeleteIt would be a hairy tree. Like a willow. Or something with Spanish moss.
