I Learn Where I Stand

I've been recommending Malcolm Gladwell's books to my wife for years, and she's never read one-- but last week I saw her reading a copy of The Tipping Point . . . apparently if her friend Lynn mentions that a book is good, then she runs out and gets a copy, but I can recommend an author for the entirety of our marriage and this has no consequence.

  1. Just tell her Oprah recommended it. Then she'll read anything you recommend.

  2. that's not the point! she should want to read it because I recommended it!

  3. Well if you mislead her a couple of times and she likes the books, you could say Oprah didn't recommend those I did. So listen to me more often.

  4. Maybe you should use reverse psychlogy - tell her that you don't like a book in order to get her to read it, and be really dramatic about how bad the book is. Then you'll truly know where you stand.

  5. I'm sure it's indirect reciprocity for you not doing a lot of of things she asks you to do

  6. I did not run anywhere to get it, my friend let me borrow her copy. Dave reads a million books I can't possibly listen to all of his recommendations -- Oprah recommended or not.
