Happy Fourth, Goldie Hawn!

The Sugarland Express, Steven Spielberg's theatrical directorial debut, is a fine film to watch on the Fourth of July-- as the movie seems to be set on July 3rd or 4th (because of the parade in Rodrigo) but the actual events that inspired the film did NOT happen during July . . . and the true story is equally as bizarre and compelling as the film: the 1969 kidnapping of Texas State Trooper Kenneth Crone by Robert and Ila Fae Dent . . . the Dents, on the run with the mission to reclaim their child from foster care, led police on a dramatic chase across Texas.
